Transformation of Kilwardby House

Kilwardby House – renovation of a Grade II listed building

Bringing a Historic Building Back to Life

We are pleased to share the completion of the sensitive restoration and conversion of Kilwardby House, Kilwardby Street, Ashby de la Zouch – a prominent Grade II listed building within the town centre.

Working closely with the client, planners and conservation officers throughout the process, the project has transformed a largely vacant and deteriorating historic building into seven high-quality homes, securing a sustainable long-term future for an important local heritage asset.

The scheme involved extensive design work, Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent together with detailed technical design, working drawings and ongoing involvement throughout construction and certification to ensure the completed development remained true to the original vision.

Particular care was taken to retain the character and significance of Kilwardby House whilst introducing contemporary accommodation suited to modern living. Existing historic features have been carefully restored and enhanced, whilst modern interventions have been integrated sympathetically to preserve the building’s architectural character.

The completed development demonstrates how underused heritage buildings can be successfully brought back into productive use, contributing positively to both the built environment and wider town centre regeneration within Ashby de la Zouch.

Projects such as this highlight the importance of balancing conservation with innovation – ensuring valued historic buildings remain relevant, usable and protected for future generations.

Our role extended from initial design and planning through to detailed technical delivery, site inspections and certification during construction, allowing continuity throughout the project and helping to ensure the quality of the completed development.
