Work has recently finished on this project in Worthington, and it was great to work with our clients, the owners of the property.
The owners, Tim and Claire Green, approached us in November/December 2020 to discuss the new home that they were purchasing. David had initial discussions with Tim and Claire on-site to discuss the possibilities for their new home and the alterations they would like to achieve.
The dwelling needed some renovation to bring the building to modern standards. Still, it provided a fantastic opportunity to create an amazing home, especially with superb countryside views from the property.
Following this initial consultation, work began re-designing their new home. The first stage was to survey the existing building and the site, which would form the base for constructing the project. Below are a couple of photos taken from the initial survey of the property:

Once we had recorded the existing details for the property, the next stage was to complete sketch proposals to look at the property’s potential and incorporate the ideas the clients had discussed with David.
Following the receipt of the drawings by the client, we had a meeting at our offices to discuss some amendments they wished to make. Once Tim and Claire had approved the sketch plans, we recommended a few local builders for them to discuss a budget for construction costs before progressing the project much further.
The project’s next stage was to complete detailed planning drawings in preparation for submitting the planning application. The application took around 8-10 weeks to obtain a decision from the local authority.
Once we had obtained planning permission, the project passed from our design team to our technical team so that they could complete the working drawings used by the builder. We then gave these drawings to a structural engineer so that they could calculate the size of the beams required.
Working with Tim and Claire on the project and during the construction of their new home was great. They were kind enough to send us progression photos which are always gratefully received. We rarely get the chance to see projects as they progress on-site. Tim and Claire then invited us back to the site to view the finished project, and it turned out to be a fantastic new home for them and their family.
Below are a few photos of the finished project.

Client Testimonial
“When we started the process to buy Orchard House we wanted someone with the reputable experience and knowledge. From the first meeting with David on a dark afternoon in November, it was clear his team could develop our vision and support us on the slightly daunting project ahead.
We talked about developing a modern family home for the future, whilst retaining the feel of the 1930s house, making the most of the rear aspect over the garden and countryside views.
The subsequent design and planning phases moved seamlessly into planning approval, from which Stuart and his team produced the necessary technical drawing.
Additionally, the recommendation of a number of local builders who were both competitively priced and strong track records of similar builds, really helped us in the final selection of HJ Nichols for the project who did exactly that.
We were very impressed by the responsiveness and professionalism from Simon and all the team at David Granger Design at every step of the process and have recommended their services to other friends who are looking at similar projects.
We are now enjoying the finished results of our home and cannot thank the team enough.”
