Prestigious Design Award Win

Our award winning housing developments in Wilson won at the ProCon Leicestershire 2023 Awards, with two more projects also shortlisted.

Prestigious Design Award Celebrates Exceptional Housing Development

In Wilson, near Melbourne in Derbyshire, a unique opportunity arose at the former site of the Breedon Golf Centre Course’s second hole, located at the junction of Main Street and Green Lane. Historically, this part of the course posed challenges for golfers due to its detachment from the main course and the surrounding dense woodland, leading to slower play and lost balls.

The sale of this land, a strategic move to enhance the golf club’s facilities, paved the way for a unique residential project. This development, a collaboration between David Granger Architectural Design and Alexander Bruce Estates, comprises five new homes and blends the historic charm of the village with modern architectural design. The homes, set in a courtyard arrangement, evoke the essence of a traditional farmhouse surrounded by converted barns, a nod to the village’s rural heritage.

Award Winning Housing Developments in Wilson

This project mirrors the success of the Limes Farm development in Breedon on the Hill, another collaboration between the two companies. Both projects are celebrated for their high-quality materials and meticulous attention to detail, reflecting a deep commitment to excellence in design.

This development’s distinction was further solidified at the ProCon Leicestershire Ltd 2023 awards, where it clinched the title of Best Medium Residential Scheme of the year. The accolade received at the King Power Stadium is a testament to the project’s innovative approach and the seamless collaboration between Alexander Bruce Estates and David Granger Architectural Design.

Mark Smalley, our Development Director, expressed immense pride in this achievement. Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, he highlighted the unique challenges of the site and the exceptional build quality that brought the design vision to life. This award, recognised by industry peers, marks a significant milestone in creating exceptional, bespoke living spaces that enrich the local community.

Two More Shortlisted Developments

As we mentioned in our last newsletter, we found ourselves uniquely positioned to have three entries in the same category at this year’s ProCon Leicestershire awards.

Botts Lane, Appleby Magna

The Botts Lane development in Appleby Magna marks an exceptional transformation of unused paddock land into a striking residential area. In 2018, plans were set to erect two detached dwellings, a project critically aligned with sustainable development principles.

This corner plot, highly visible upon entering the village from Snarestone Lane, demanded a design that harmonised with the existing village fabric. The proposal evolved into a linear development, echoing the continuity of Botts Lane’s existing dwellings yet adopting a contemporary aesthetic to bring an innovative touch to the prominent location.

Lychgate Bespoke Build Ltd, part of Lychgate Homes Ltd Group, has been instrumental in realising this vision. Known for their exceptional work in North West Leicestershire, they’ve used their quality workmanship and materials expertise to craft outstanding residential schemes. This development’s achievement in reaching the final three of the ProCon Leicestershire Ltd 2023 Medium Residential Scheme of the year is a testament to its design excellence and innovative approach.

Talbot Street, Whitwick

In Talbot Street, Whitwick, a different yet equally challenging project took shape. The plan, conceived in 2017, was to develop seven detached dwellings on a half-hectare vacant land adjoining Whitwick Petrol Filling Station.

This site presented a unique topographical challenge with a significant level difference, requiring an inventive solution in the form of split-level properties. The design embraced the site’s slope, with properties varying from single to two-and-a-half storeys, and included tiered gardens to maximise the breathtaking views.

Jack Loggin Ltd, the developer, brought this vision to life, integrating the development seamlessly into the surrounding area through meticulous craftsmanship. The success of this scheme in being shortlisted as one of the top three for the ProCon Leicestershire Ltd 2023 Medium Residential Scheme of the Year underscores its innovative design and significant impact on enhancing the local landscape.
