Having originally been converted from a chapel to residential use in 1999 by David Granger Architectural Design Ltd, it was an early example of a chapel conversion prior to the upsurge in many chapels being converted in the early 21st century.

Not long after its conversion, it was then utilised as office space rather than residential for a number of years before coming back to David Granger Architectural Design Ltd in 2022 to once again be converted to residential use.

It was interesting to see the change in styles and change in approach to chapel conversions in the 25 years that had lapsed between.

The chapel lies in the centre of the village of Swannington situated on the main street, set back slightly off the road and is a Grade II listed building with many of its original features still intact.

The chapel is a large-scale brick-built building and occupies a prominent position with a significant presence within the street scene in the village. Planning permission and listed building consent were obtained in October 2023, following which self-builders Laurence and Karen set about the conversion works with their contractor. Laurence and Karen saw an opportunity when the chapel became available, which meant a relocation back to the Midlands area to undertake the works.

It was due to their love of the building and dedication to its heritage that meant the conversion works were not only undertaken in a sympathetic manner but also to a very high standard, with a fantastic conversion which breathes a new injection of life into this heritage asset.
